PARIS BOUND is the story of two lovers, a British professor and his North African student, who travel by car from Morocco to Paris, staying at campsites in Spain and finally a hotel in Paris. Their escapades along the way include almost running out of petrol in the Rif and smuggling out of Morocco not only contraband currency but a Moslem girl. Only Nadia’s charms and initiative save them from disaster.
In the intimacy of tent sharing, their relationship deepens, each seeing in the other
the answer to their future happiness, for Roy’s divorce is nearly through and Nadia is
eminently available. Moreover, each seems to have exactly what the other needs for
completion, his scholarly prowess complementing her youthful zest, and his stability her
daring.
At once a road novel, an offbeat love story and a mystery, PARIS BOUND will appeal to both male and female readers, especially those who have experienced the pains and pleasures of culture-clashed romance.
PARIS BOUND is the second published novel by David James, a former textual scholar who has emerged from the bookstacks to write his own books to add to the stacks. A youthful obsession with Proust’s autobiographical novel A La Recherce de Temps Perdus / Remembrance of Things Past produced the germ of this book, which deals (less exhaustively than Proust!) with the jealousies, deceptions and self-deceptions
between lovers.
David James was born in London and has spent much of his life teaching abroad. He has attended universities in London, British Columbia and Leeds to obtain degrees in
English Language and Literature, English and American Literature and Linguistics and Phonetics. David James is now a full time writer of fiction. He has a grown family and currently lives in the United Kingdom in Sutton, Surrey with his second wife and two younger children.
